As a gunshot rings out at the school, Heaton arranges a negotiation, with CO19's PS Hooper, Gold and Stone. Gunman Jake Quinn demands to see Nicola Parry, the woman he is obsessed with, and the mother of one of his hostages. Weston shows up, despite being sick, and goes into rescue a hostage having an asthma attack disguised as a paramedic. When Smith makes contact, the team use this to their advantage, and plan to fool Quinn with the promise of Nicola, so CO19 can go in undercover. Gold decides after months of cracking under pressure to resign after thinking Smithy had been shot.
