Carver arrives home at his new flat, but soon comes to realise exactly what he has left behind. With nothing but a bottle of scotch and a run-down sofa, he starts to reminisce about his twenty-two-year career at Sun Hill. He discusses the events of his first day, where he arrived late at work due to a dodgy alarm clock; his two different stints working in CID, with the first being ended due to the controversial 'Tenure' process which was in effect at the time; his return to uniform and struggle with alcohol addiction; his transfer to CSU which he saw as the ladder back into CID; and his gambling debts of over £60,000, which nearly cost him his life at the hands of an evil loan shark, Zacadelli.
